This time is for MY COUNTRY, INDONESIA!!

ICOLIS…who’s going to present the paper from Indonesia?

Finally it was decided that I’m going to present Indonesian‘s paper at ICOLIS, Malaysia. The collaboration paper from the three of us finally finished and a presentation in ppt was being made. Well...having two hats on my head now put me at the situation where conflict of interest happens. I have my main responsibility to be working at BIS and it is my moral responsibility as a citizen of Indonesia as well as an information professional from Indonesia to speak up at the international level. I was OFFERED to take the opportunity. What were the consequences if I ignored the request? Nothing! The nation remains the same nations. The information literacy still becomes our business in APISI and the rest are going on as usual. What’s the deal? Or what the consequences were if I take the opportunity? The school may not be letting me going as The Libraries Manager already in there to attend the conference. It has been decided for her to go. Not me. We agreed with that. That was why I was not preparing for the paper to submit. Even though I proposed my annual leave to attend this conference, it’s going to be a big deal for school! I chose the last one….

The paper

The writing actually made up by Diao Ailien, Ph.D, Umi Proboyekti, S.Kom, MLIS and I. We came to an agreement that we’d like to take this opportunity to write up together for Indonesian's paper. Although it was not decided who’s going to present it. So, each of us wrote our own experience. Ibu Ailien and her team was the fist people who brought and introduce IL to schools and university since 2005. Then the application at the university experience was told by ibu Umi from UKDW, Yogyakarta. From APISI point of view, the sharing of promoting IL around the archipelago was written down. So, it became a one paper. It is my task next to maintain the coherent and the flow of the writing. I tried my best to make it into one wholly paper, not one paper written down by three persons. It was done. Ibu Ailien and Ibu Umi also helped out with the ppt. Done. It took about two weeks until all prepared.

Seeking the support

Now, the ticket, airport tax and fiscal must bee sought. Who’s going to pay? I called Pak Surya Dharma and explain about this thing. It didn’t take a long time for him to give me funding. Well..the amount of money is enough to pay fiscal, airport tax, local transportation and half of my ticket fares. The other half amount, I got the green light from pak Subahi. The important thing was the permission given by BIS who granted me this opportunity as my professional development. Thank you BIS especially Mr Davies who has given me a fully support on my attendance to this conference. The presentation went well. The one day trip on Wednesday November 19th, 2008 was not felt so tiring as I covered with the satisfaction for accomplished the mission. One thing for sure was Indonesia is moving forward. On the way back home to KLIA, I remember when the first time I presented IL in Indonesia at I-WIL, Petaling Jaya in 2006, the level of IL implementation was very low. In the time span afterwards, there were lots of developments being made and are going on…Lots of achievements made together from association profession, National Library, Ministry of Education, schools and universities to make this country even better and smarter [not because I got supports from Ministry of Education and National Library to attend this conference. But it truly happened…]

BTW, I may say this is the first writing on the initiative of IL history in Indonesia. Any comment anyone??
